Borussia Moenchengladbach is playing its match,
Saturday, against its guest Bayer Leverkusen in
the second stage after the resumption of the German League
after an interruption of more than two months due to
the new Coronavirus, in front of nearly 13 thousand
paper figures for its fans, in an attempt to compensate
for playing behind closed doors.
Mönchengladbach adopted the idea of placing cardboard
figures to fill empty seats as well in its first match after
returning from the stop last Saturday against Eintracht
Frankfurt (3-1), allowing its fans to obtain a stereoscopic
image of them in full size, to put them in the stands for
19 euros, per stereo.
“We have installed approximately 13,000 solids, but
the request has reached about 20,000,” Thomas Ludwik,
president of the German fan group, Van Lebrecht
Mönchengladbach revealed to the German sports news
agency Seid, which collaborates with France Press.
“It is a wonderful process that creates an atmosphere
on the field and at the same time is reminded that
football without fans is not the same,” said Marx Eberle,
the club’s sports director who is third in the Bundesliga
standings before the 27th stage.
Monchengladbach coach Marco Roze seemed happy
with the initiative and said, “It is great. You feel that
you are not alone when you exercise in the field.”
Last weekend, the Bundesliga became the first major
domestic championship to resume since the stop in
March due to the outbreak of the Coruna virus.
Bayern Munich, the defending champion, leads the
standings 4 points behind rivals Borussia Dortmund II,
while Monchengladbach is 6 points behind the Bavarian
club.
