Lionel Messi became the most goalscorer with one football team, Tuesday, after he reached the 644th
goal with Barcelona during the Real Valladolid match, to surpass legend Pele’s record with Santos, Brazil.
The 33-year-old Argentine star equaled Pele’s number of 643 goals when he scored against Valencia last Saturday.
Barcelona made a strong showing and won 3-0 away to Real Valladolid in the Spanish Football League, Tuesday.
Messi finally set up his first goal of the season when he sent a cross that defender Clemo Lenglet turned into
the net in the 21st minute.
Messi also contributed to the second goal, sending a superb pass to right-back Sergio Dest to quickly turn it
into a cross in Martin Braithwaite’s path and conceding the net in the 35th minute.
And Messi, the record-breaking player, capped his great effort by scoring himself, as he received a pass from
the young Pedri and hit the ball strongly from close range in the goal of the owners of the land, to pass Pele’s
record with Santos.
Messi came close to scoring another goal in stoppage time, but he pushed the ball into the area and then shot
from a narrow-angle in the post.
This is Barcelona’s first victory in five away league matches this season, but it remains in fifth place with
24 points from 14 games.
Atletico Madrid top the league with 32 points from 13 games, after their 2-0 win over Real Sociedad earlier
in the day.
