Swiss tennis star Roger Federer announced on Thursday that he underwent surgery on his right knee
and will miss the French Open, the second major slam tournament.
“I was feeling uncomfortable on my right knee a little while ago
after I consulted and spoke to my team,
I decided to undergo surgery yesterday (Wednesday) in Switzerland,
” the record holder wrote in the Grand Slam titles (20 titles) in his account on social media.
He added: “Therefore, I will be absent from the Dubai, Indian Wells, Bogota, Miami, and Roland Garros tournaments,”
thus setting a date for the grass-court season.
Federer, who will celebrate his 39th birthday in August,
seemed comfortable with the endoscopic surgery,
and said, “The doctors are very confident of a full recovery.”
It is the second time that Federer has had knee surgery, but it is the first since 2016 when he underwent an operation on his left knee.
Federer will be absent from Roland Garros next year,
who returned to her last year for the first time since 2015 and reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by Spain’s Rafael Nadal,
who was later crowned the title at the expense of Austrian Dominique Thiem
Federer, the world number three, who reached the round of four for the Australian Open,
expected the first of the four major tournaments this year,
before going out at the hands of Serbian champion Novak Djokovic, returning to the stadiums in the season and grass tournaments season,
which will open in mid-June.
The return will be only a month before the Olympic Games in Tokyo,
which is considered the biggest challenge remaining in his professional career.
