Manchester City won the title of the Football Association
Professional League Cup for the third time in a row and
the fifth in the last seven years, by defeating Aston Villa
2-1 on Sunday in the final match hosted by the Wembley
Stadium in London.
The three goals were scored in the first half, as Man City
advanced with the goals of Argentine Sergio Aguero (20)
and Spain’s Rodri (30), before Aston Villa narrowed the
difference through Tanzania’s Mwana Samata (41).
City increased the league title to seven and became one
of the records for Liverpool, while Aston Villa failed to
win the title for the first time since 1996.
Having logically lost hope in winning the title “Premier
League,” for the third season in a row because of the big
difference between him and Liverpool, who is steadily
heading for his first title since 1990, City has succeeded
in continuing his path towards trying to win three titles
also this season since he qualified for the fifth round of
the competition The Cup where Wednesday will be a
guest visit to Sheffield and Sendai, as well as he made
great progress towards the quarter-finals of the
Champions League by winning the first leg of the final
away to Real Madrid 2-1 in the middle of the week.
Although he won seven and tied in one of the last eight
encounters (before today) with Aston Villa, City’s last
encounter with “Fellins” in the League Cup competition
did not end in his favor, as he left the third round of the
2012-2013 season with a loss of 2-4 after Extension.
But the Guardiola team was determined on Sunday to
avoid a similar scenario against the “Fellins” whose
latest victory over Man City dates back to September 28,
2013 (3-2 in the league), but the task was not easy as the
“Citizens” faced a quarrelsome team that resisted it a lot.
Especially in the last minutes, as he was close to
dragging the match into two additional games.
