Real Madrid showcased their character and beat
Barcelona 2-0 in the top game to clinch the top spot in
the Spanish Football League, Sunday.
Young Brazilian Vinicius Jr. scored the first goal for
Real Madrid in the 71st minute, and substitute Mariano
Diaz added the second goal after moments of stoppage
time, to clinch the victory of the hosts.
Real lost to Levante in the last round of the league and
then stumbled at home to Manchester City in the first
leg of the Champions League round sixteen, but it
appeared strongly today and threatened Barcelona’s goal
more than once before scoring twice in the second half.
Zinedine Zidane’s team leads the league with 56 points
from 26 games, while Barcelona fell to second place
with 55 points.
Real deserved the three points and his first victory at El
Clásico at home since October 25, 2014 (3-1), and
regaining the lead that he abdicated in the last stage by
losing to Levante (zero -1), because he was the best party
in the two rounds.
French coach Zinedine Zidane hopes that this victory
will give his players the necessary impetus to try to
correct the team’s path, especially in the Champions
League, where he needs tremendous efforts to try to
reverse the result when he visits Manchester City on the
17th of this month.
On the other hand, the first test for Barcelona’s new
coach, Kiki Citin, was not successful in El Clásico, and
his contract continued against Real Madrid, as he won
only two times in the Spanish League during nine of his
encounters during his training career.
