Slovenian UEFA President UEFA Alexandre Cheverin
has said that Liverpool will be the Premier League
champion, whatever the fate of the championship that
has been suspended due to the outbreak of the new
Coruna virus.
“It is impossible for Liverpool not to be a champion. If
the matches are played, he is almost certain to win the
title. In theory he has not won the title yet, but he
certainly can,” he said.
He continued: “If the matches cannot be played, we will
need to find a way and a key on which to announce the
results and determine the winners (…) I do not see any
scenario in which Liverpool is not (a hero).”
And Liverpool finds itself this season closer than ever to
winning the title after 30 years of waiting, if it leads the
standings with 82 points, and 25 points behind its
pursuit of Manchester City, who played less.
The red team could have won the title in the next match
against its neighbor Everton in the thirtieth stage,
provided City lost to Burnley, before the matches were
suspended due to the Corona virus.
The Confederation president stated: “I realize that the
fans will be disappointed if the matches are played in an
empty stadium or even if the issue is resolved on the
table (referring to a decision by decision and not the
outcome of the matches on the stadium), but I think that
he (Liverpool) in one way or another will win the title “.
