Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos revealed the man who
“ignorant” caused the Brazilian star to move to Real
Madrid, as he became a legend in the world of football
there.
Roberto Carlos said that the English football’s
“ignorance” of Roy Hudson prompted him to consider
leaving Intermilano and moving to Real Madrid in 1996.
Carlos was playing left back with the Italian club, where
he provided excellent level and high skill, but with the
advent of Hudson in 1995, Carlos was transferred to the
middle of the field.
“Roy Hodson destroyed me. He made me play in the
middle of the field. I would have lost my place with
Brazil before the 1997 Copa America,” Carlos told
Marca newspaper.
He added: “He had no personal problem with me, but he
was ignorant of football.”
Hudson preferred the Italian defender Felice Centovanti
to the full back, before he signed with Alessandro
Pestoni, which prompted Carlos to move.
Carlos moved from Italy to Real Madrid, with Italian
coach Fabio Capello in 1996, when his real journey
began with brilliance.
Carlos then played 11 seasons with “The Royal” and
became one of the best left-back center stars in the
world since then.
It is noteworthy that Roy Hodson is still coach to this
day, and he works at the head of the technical staff of
Crystal Palace Club in the English Premier League
