Manchester United and Spain soccer goalkeeper David
de Gea has alluded to his staying for several more years
with the team that has been defending its colors for
nearly nine years.
“Yes, I’m getting old. But just being part of this team
is amazing,” said De Gea, 29, via the United Hangout
service on his club’s website.
“Imagine, 10 years, it is a dream. It is great to play
matches defending the colors of this club, so I hope
to stay here for many years.”
De Gea renewed his contract with Manchester last
September for an additional four years (until 2023),
and next year he will celebrate the 10th anniversary of
his transfer to the ranks of the “Red Devils” at the age of
twenty in 2011 coming from Atletico Madrid, in a deal
worth 18.9 million pounds ( About 24 million dollars).
The Spanish international goalkeeper, through this
renewal, put an end to speculation about his future in
northern England, especially the repeated talk about his
desire to move to the ranks of Real Madrid.
Alex Stepney is still the goalkeeper who defended the
longest window for United, for 12 years in the sixties
and seventies of the last century, followed by the Danish
Peter Schmeichel (8 years) and the Dutchman Edwin van
der Sar (6 years).
De Gea touched on the level of his team this season,
as he ranked fifth in the Premier League standings and
reached the quarter-finals of the England Cup, and went
a long way towards reaching the quarter-finals of the
European League competition (Europa League) after his
victory over the Austrian Lask host by five clean in the
first leg of the final price Before spherical activity was
interrupted by the emerging coronavirus.
He said: “I think the team as a whole is developing.
We were in a good moment,” indicating that his team did
not lose in a series of 11 games in various competitions
before the competitions stopped mid-March.
He continued: “We were at the top of our level, we did
not receive many goals and of course Bruno (Fernandez)
shine, he is a smart player and the team has improved
with his arrival” from Sporting in the Portuguese transfer
window in January 2020.
