Brighton & Hove Albion, chief executive of Brighton & Hove
Albion, the Premier League club, has confirmed the emergence
of a third case of the emerging coronavirus among his team
players.
“This is a concern. Unfortunately, our third player infected
yesterday,” Barber told Sky Sports on Sunday.
“Therefore, despite all the measures we have taken over the past
few weeks, as the players have never participated in any of
the exercises mentioned it was another positive result of
the player,” Barber added.
Two Brighton players infected in March and April, and
the appearance of the third case may harm plans to resume
league games that stalled since mid-March due
to fears of infection.
It is scheduled that the league teams will meet again,
on Monday, to discuss the possibility of resuming the matches
in next June, after the government agreed to hold 92 remaining
games in neutral stadiums, and behind closed doors without any
public attendance.
Earlier, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero said that several
players will fear the possibility of the return of matches,
in light of the continued spread of the Covid-19 virus,
which infected more than 4.02 million people around the world,
and caused the death of more than 280 thousand.
“There is a concern, and I think it is normal for all clubs to feel
such concern. We want to make sure that we do all that is
required of us to ensure that these guidelines applied,
our safety and security are met, and the risks contained as
closely as possible,” Barber added.
Brighton is 15th in the 20 Premier League teams and has five
matches remaining at home, which includes clashes with
Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal,
and is one of the clubs that oppose playing on neutral courts.
