The Spanish League announced its plan to complete a
game that was suspended in December, making it the
longest match in modern football history.
According to the newspaper “Marca”, the Spanish
League announced the establishment of “the second half”
of the match of Rayo Vallecano and Albacete, in the
second-tier competitions, next Wednesday, June 10.
The confrontation of Rayo Vallecano and Albacete
stopped after the end of the first half, on December 15th,
after harassment by the fans of Rayo Vallecano,
the Albacete player, the Ukrainian Roman Zuzulya.
Zuzulia moved to the ranks of Rayo Vallecano in 2017,
but major opposition from the fans of the club led to the
dissolution of his contract, after accusing him of right-
wing extremism and fascist tendencies, which the
Ukrainian player denied, before moving to Albacete,
then facing the fans of his former team in December.
After a series of insults and a verbal assault on Zuzulia
during the meeting, by a large number of fans, the referee
decided to stop the match between the two halves.
The League continued to postpone the completion of the
match until the Coronavirus spread and stopped football
matches in the country, now announcing the second half
next week, nearly 6 months after the first half.
The “strange” confrontation will be the longest football
match in history, after the previous record for a match in
Scotland between Airdy and Strunner, which was
postponed 33 times during the whole month,
due to bad weather.
