Spanish champions Primera Liga said that its Argentine captain
Lionel Messi did not participate in the team’s training today,
Friday, due to suffering a slight thigh injury.
Barcelona fully resumed its regular training on Monday for the
first time in three months in preparation for the return of La Liga
matches on June 11.
Like many tournaments and events, La Liga games were
suspended in March after the outbreak of the highly-spreaded
Covid-19 virus.
Messi participated in the first training of the team, but he missed
training last Wednesday, while the team rested its players on
Thursday.
Barcelona said that he expects his Argentine star to return to
training in the next few days, which means that he will be ready
to lead his team away from home against Real Mallorca on
June 13.
“The Barcelona captain is suffering from a slight twisting of the
right thigh muscles,” Barcelona said in a statement.
“This Friday, he performed some specific tasks with the aim of
avoiding any risks because our first La Liga match after eight
days. He is expected to return to work with the group within
the next few days,” the statement added.
Barcelona and seeks to win the domestic league title for
the third season in a row, which is unique to the lead, two points
ahead of his closest Real Madrid, before the last 11 rounds of
the season.
Messi is the only league scorer in the Spanish league this
season, with 19 goals.
