German coach Juergen Klopp spoke for the first time about
the reason not to sign German Timo Werner, days after
international newspapers announced the “completion”
of his Chelsea rival of the deal with the German striker.
Several sources have confirmed that Werner, Red Bull Leipzig
striker, has agreed to move to Chelsea, for 55 million euros.
In an interview with “Sky Germany,” Klopp confirmed that
Werner “is a great player, just like the German Kai Havertz,
and other players on this planet.”
Klopp said: “Many things should be available such as the right
opportunity and the right time. 6 weeks ago we didn’t know if
we were going to play football again.”
Klopp noted: “We are behaving as if everything has already
been resolved. We have to keep an eye out for how things
will work out, we should not pretend that life has returned
to normal.”
Klopp noted that the Reds will think a lot before accepting new
contracts to compensate for the financial losses incurred
due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.
The German coach said: “We have to justify a contract with
a player worth 50 or 60 million pounds for the fans and
the administration, especially as we are now losing a lot of
money, without a public presence.”
He added: “We may play matches without fans for 10 or 15
games next season as well, all of this will have an impact on
sponsorship contracts in clubs, things will look different.”
