Juventus captain Leonardo Bonucci defended his Portuguese
colleague Cristiano Ronaldo after the former Real Madrid star
failed to carry out a penalty kick in the “old lady” match
and Milan, on Friday.
Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty to win Juventus 0-0 with 10
Milan players, but the Turin giants managed to reach the Italian
Cup final after resuming the season after a 3-month hiatus
due to the Corona pandemic.
Juventus climbed to the final scheduled, next Wednesday, at
the base of the away goals after a 1-1 draw in the first leg
semi-final, which was held on February 13th.
“Even great players miss such kicks,” Leonardo Bonucci was
quoted by the Spanish newspaper “Marca” as saying about
Leonardo Bonucci’s penalty.
He added: “Ronaldo is important to us a lot. It increases
the pressure on the opponents of the opposing team, but he was
not lucky in the penalty kick, unlike the Milan goalkeeper
Gianluigi Donnaroma.”
He continued: “We still look at Ronaldo as a great player in
a great team,” noting that the main focus of Juventus is now
focused on the match next Wednesday, where he will face
the winning team from the Napoli match and Inter Milan,
who will meet on Saturday.
Juventus got a penalty kick in the game in the 16th minute after
the assistant video referee decided that there was a hand touch
in the area, but Ronaldo wasted it after hitting the post.
Soon after, Milan striker Ante Ribiche was sent off for a violent
foul on Danilo, with the visiting team playing 10 men for more
than 70 minutes.
But Milan held together even though he had not succeeded
in kidnapping any goal he would have taken to the final.
