Bournemouth player Arnott Dangoma revealed that he
was arrested a few days before Britain entered the full
closure in late March, denouncing “racist motives”
behind his arrest on suspicion of involvement in an
attempted murder.
British newspaper “Sun” reported that Dungoma,
the 23-year-old Dutch winger, confirmed that his arrest
had been made in error.
The player reported the incident to the newspaper, as he
was in central Bournemouth, in southern England, to buy
food when police surprised him. He said: “Suddenly
a police car appeared and two officers jumped from them
and one of them shouted: Put your hands on the fence.”
The Nigerian-born player replied, “What have you
done?”, But the police quickly came back to him:
“Put your hands on the tourists and shut up.”
It turned out that the policemen were looking for
a suspect involved in a stabbing incident on March 16,
about a week before Britain entered a total closure due to
the outbreak of the new Corona virus.
The player talked about the embarrassment that the
British police officers had caused him to do, because
“the people in the place started taking pictures of me.”
He continued: “I got crazy because of this behavior, and I
said words that I shouldn’t have said.” At the end,
the policeman just said, “You’re not the one we’re
looking for. You can go.”
The Bournemouth player did not receive an apology
despite the mistake made by the police, so he decided to
file a formal complaint, according to “Sun”.
Danjuma’s disclosure of the incident comes as the United
States and the world are overwhelmed by protests against
racism, which is anti-black.
