Lionel Messi scored a goal and made two, with La Liga
leaders Barcelona leading 4-0 at home to struggling Real
Mallorca on Saturday, returning to matches ideally after
a three-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The “La Liga” holder started the match in a wonderful
way when Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal scored
a plane header in the second minute, while Danish
international Martin Braithwaite scored his first goal
with Barcelona, at the end of the first half.
Jordi Alba added a third goal for Barcelona in the 79th
minute after receiving a pass from Messi who had also
made Braithwaite’s goal. The Argentine star quadrupled
with a shot that changed direction in stoppage time.
The victory raised Barcelona’s balance to 61 points from
28 games, 5 points behind Real Madrid, its closest
attache, who hosts Eibar on Sunday, in its first match
after the resumption of the season.
The match was played without fans to avoid the spread
of the new Corona virus, but a fan wearing the Argentina
national team shirt succeeded in reaching the field before
the supervisors quickly brought it out.
Uruguay striker Luis Suarez appeared for the first time
since his knee injury six months ago, and took part in
the second half while substitute Ronald Araujo hit
the post just before Alba’s goal.
Mallorca is ranked 18th.
