French coach Zinedine Zidane wrote another page in the history
of Real Madrid, on Sunday, when he led his team against Ibar
in the first matches of the Royal Club in the Spanish League,
after a long pause imposed by the measures to confront
the Corona virus.
Zidane became the third coach to lead “Los Blancos” in 200
matches or more, in all competitions throughout the history
of the club, which was founded in 1902.
Zizou joined an exclusive club with only two members, Miguel
Munoz and Vicente del Bosque.
As renovations take place at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium,
Zidane’s “historical match” succeeded in defeating Ibar 3-1
at De Stefano, a capacity of 6,000 spectators, played by
the Real Madrid substitutes team.
Zidane, 47, took charge of Real Madrid for the first time in
January 2016 until the summer of 2018 when he announced
his sudden departure from the team, days after completing his
historic achievement of leading Real Madrid for the third
consecutive Champions League title.
Zizou then returned to the leadership of the royal team in March
2019 after a difficult period for the team, and signed a contract
whereby it will continue until the summer of 2022.
Zidane seems close to overtaking second-placed Spaniard Del
Bosque, who led Real Madrid in 246 games between 1994 and
2003, but it will not be easy to overtake Munoz, who led
Real Madrid in 605 games between 1959 and 1974.
Although he entered the “Three Giants” club and achieved
a triple victory over Eibar, Zidane was not completely happy,
and his players were blamed for the poor performance in
the second half, according to the Spanish newspaper “Marca”.
After the victory, Real Madrid scored 59 points from 28 games,
two points behind La Liga leaders, and the title holder in the last
two seasons.
