The Spanish Football Association (Liga) said on
Thursday that the global follow-up rate of the league has
increased by more than 48 percent since the season
returned, after stopping for nearly three months due to
the Corona virus pandemic.
Looking at a statistical study conducted by the “Nielsen
Sports” company for the first round of matches after
the tournament resumed on June 11 without fans,
the association said that the largest percentage of
the increase came in Africa, reaching 73 percent.
The follow-up rate in Asia also increased, reaching
72 percent, as the association entered into an agreement
with Facebook to broadcast free matches in the Indian
subcontinent since 2018.
In Europe, follow-up increased by more than 56 percent,
and the increase was very clear in Belgium
(130 percent), which canceled the local season due to
the pandemic.
“Reuters” quoted a spokesman for the association as
saying that the most follow-up games were Real Madrid’s
3-1 victory over Eibar, then Barcelona defeated 4-0
against Real Mallorca, then Seville’s 2-0 victory over
rivals and neighbors Real Betis, which was the first
match since the resumption season.
For his part, Oscar Mayo, head of the association’s
international marketing and development sector, said:
“We are pleased with the rapid rise in the number of
followers of the Spanish league globally. We knew
that the fans around the world needed the pleasure and
excitement that we provide.”
