Late goal from Dawson gives Watford a draw with Lester

Late goal from Dawson gives Watford a draw with Lester

Defender Craig Dawson scored in injury time to give his

team Watford a 1-1 draw at home to Leicester City and

a valuable point in his quest to survive the relegation

from the English Premier League.

England international defender Ben Chilwell put Lester

third in the lead with a massive kick in the 90th minute

before Dawson canceled that lead with a brilliant

backhand, to temporarily move his team one point away

from the relegation zone.

Abdullah Dockery made Watford midfielder the most

dangerous opportunity in the first half when he shot

in the hands of goalkeeper Casper Schmeichel after

a defensive error from Wilfred Ndede.

At the beginning of the second half, Watford player

Etienne Capoe sent a great pass to put Ismail walked

against Schmeichel, but the Danish goalkeeper saved

the ball.

After failing to hit any ball on goal in the first half, most

opportunities were offered at the end of the second half

for Leicester and almost went ahead when Mark

Albrighton fired a ball into the post.

Lester seemed to have decided his first win at Vicarage

Road since 2016 when Chilwell hit the net, but defender

Dawson had another opinion.

“It was definitely an important goal and it is a good idea

to have a point at the end,” Dawson said after scoring his

first goal with Watford.

He continued: “We are disappointed that our nets were

shaken, but the players played with a great spirit and

we equalized.”

“We were feeling tired in the second half, but thanks

to the players. You heard the voices of the players who

did not play and rejoiced after the goal.”

Watford advanced to 16th with 28 points, while Leicester

remained third, ahead of Chelsea, who were next in

the standings.
