Former Bayern Munich sports doctor, Hans-Wilhelm Muller-
Wolffarth, confirmed that the reasons that led him to resign
from the German club’s medical system after four decades of
work with the team due to his tense relationship with coach
Josep Guardiola.
In an interview with German media, Volfarth, who is one of the
most famous sports doctors in the world, described the period
he spent in Bayern Munich under the supervision of Guardiola
as a “black page”, despite leading Bayern to the title of
the Bundesliga in the three seasons Guardiola spent with him.
The former Mancheft doctor confirmed that he could not bear
the fact that a young coach, who was very successful and
perhaps one of the very big names, involved in medical
matters and knew more about everything than him.
Fulfarth pointed out that Guardiola held him responsible for
the physical condition of the players and therefore for the loss
to Porto 1-3 in the 2015 European Champions League,
which prompted the doctor to resign after 38 years in office.
He added: “While we treated the players, I was attacked
in front of the whole team, and I charged with many
injuries sustained by the team.”
Fulfarth had launched an attack on Guardiola in his
autobiography, considering that he lacked self-confidence,
accusing him of turning back the clock to FC Bayern,
although the media described him as an innovative and
revolutionary coach.
It is noteworthy that Volfarth took part in the sport during his
sports career from 1995 to the World Cup 2018 in Russia,
a period during which Germany won the World Cup in 2014.
The German doctor also supervised the treatment of sports stars
in the world, among them the former Jamaican runner Usain
Bolt, who holds the record in the 100- and 200-meters races,
nicknamed Bolt Lightning, as he considered the fastest person
on the face of the globe.
