The heavy defeat of the Barcelona team against Bayern Munich
in the quarter-finals of the European Champions League, with a
score of 8 goals for two goals, on Friday, may seem very harsh
for Barcelona fans around the world, but the matter seems more complicated.
This is not the first time that the Catalan team has scored 8
goals, or more, in one match, although it is very rare.
According to the “Mr. Chubb” statistical account on Twitter,
“Barca” during the 4,400 official matches it has played
throughout its history, has conceded 8 goals or more, only in 6 matches.
The first defeat, with a score of +8, dates back to 1931 against
Athletic Bilbao in the League Championship, and was the result
of 12 goals for one goal.
And the second time, according to the same account, came 4
years later against eternal rivals Real Madrid in the same
tournament, and ended with a score of 8 goals for two goals,
the same as the disastrous match against Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid brought the ball back again, but this time in 1943
in the Cup, where the match ended 11 -1.
Seville achieved the same, defeating Barcelona on two
occasions by a difference of 8 goals or more, the first was in
1940 in the league competition and the confrontation ended
with a score of 11-1, and the second time was in the Cup
Championship in 1946 with eight clean goals.
But the defeat by Bayern Munich, on Friday, was the first time
in European championships, during which Barca was conceded
with eight goals in one match, 4 of which came in the first 30 minutes.
