The French Football League Championship for the new season
2020-2021 kicked off on Friday, with a faint crowd of no more
than 5,000 spectators who were present at the Bordeaux team’s
Matmout Atlantique stadium.
The start of the league was a match between Bordeaux and
Nantes, at the Al-Awal Stadium, in a match scheduled for today,
Saturday, but the French League made the date after the
Marseille and Saint-Etienne match was postponed after 4
positive cases of Corona virus were discovered in Marseille.
In the match, Bordeaux completed the match with ten men, but
managed to grab a point after a lackluster draw at home against Nantes.
Bordeaux thus failed to achieve any victory in the last eight
league matches, and his start was faltering today with the new
coach Jean-Louis Gacy, according to Reuters.
Nantes dominated most of the match after 20-year-old Mehdi
Zarqan, in his first participation in the league, received a red
card immediately after a strong interference with Nicola Palloa.
But Nantes did not find inspiration as Bordeaux held out under
defender Laurent Koscielny.
And today, Saturday, there will be two matches, as Dijon will
meet Angers, while Lille will play Rennes.
It is noteworthy that the 2019-2020 French League season was
canceled last March due to the outbreak of the Corona virus,
which causes the Covid-19 epidemic.
Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain were postponed
within three weeks after the two teams qualified for the
Champions League semi-finals.
