Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed, on
Friday, that there is a clause in his French player Paul Pogba’s
contract allowing the club to extend it for one year, which will
keep the latter at Old Trafford until 2022.
Pogba’s actual contract expires at the end of the current season,
and he has recently been linked to a move to Real Madrid,
which he did not hide by admitting that it would be a “dream”
to play with the royal club.
However, according to press reports on Friday, Man United
moved to secure Pogba’s services until the end of next season,
at least, by taking advantage of the extension clause.
Manchester did not officially announce the deal, but Solskjaer
leaked the details during his press conference Friday, saying,
“Paul is our player, and he will be here for another two years,
and I am sure that he focuses on doing his best for us, and we
want to see the best of Paul.”
The French Press Agency quoted the coach of the “Red Devils”
as saying, “So, in the next two years, I am sure that we will get
the best of it.”
Pogba returned to Manchester from Juventus in a record deal at
the time in 2016, but repeated injuries and a decline in his level
were features of most of his second term in the Premier League
after the first in his start between 2010 and 2012.
Pogba played only 22 matches last season after suffering an
ankle injury and was in poor condition, while United began the
new season with two defeats in his first three league matches.
