The Uruguayan Football Association announced that the striker
of his country’s national team and Atletico Madrid team was
infected with the new Coronavirus and will miss the match
against Brazil on Tuesday in Montevideo in the fourth round of
the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
The Uruguayan Federation said that, as well as Suarez, substitute
goalkeeper Rodrigo Muños and the national team’s media
officer injured.
“The tests that performed on the other members are negative,”
he said in a statement.
He explained that these three new cases, which are “in good health,”
are added to the injury of defender Matthias Viña, who tested
positive after Uruguay’s victory over Colombia (3-0) on Saturday
night in Barranquilla.
The absence of Suarez is a painful blow to Uruguay, who is third
in the qualifiers with six points, three points behind Brazil, who
are the full score in three rounds, which will play the second match
in the absence of star Neymar da Silva due to his injury in the
parlor muscles and his return to France to join his team Paris
Saint-Germain.
