While Real Madrid always accused by fans of competitors
of obtaining what they consider “arbitration support”, a Spanish
League statistics reveal that these allegations do not appear accurate.
The royal team, against whom a penalty was awarded during its
1-2 defeat Saturday to Deportivo Alaves, is the team that has been
awarded the most penalties during the current season of the Spanish League.
Real Madrid participate in this statistic, Real Valladolid, at a rate
of 5 penalties counted against each, the highest rate among the
“LaLiga” teams so far.
The five penalty kicks that were awarded against Real Madrid,
against Valencia (3 strikes), Villarreal, and finally Alaves came
after a handball on central defense Nacho Fernandez.
The defending champion suffered a surprise defeat at home to
Alaves, in a match that saw an early penalty kick and a disastrous
mistake by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, and a new injury to
Eden Hazard, the most expensive player in Real Madrid’s history.
Zinedine Zidane’s team is fourth in the standings with 17 points
from 10 matches, 6 points behind leaders Real Sociedad and
Atletico Madrid, second-placed, who played a lesser game.
Real Madrid suffered their tenth loss in the league, since
Zidane returned to the club in March 2019.
