Frenchman Stephanie Frabar will make history from the broadest
of its doors, when she becomes the first woman to rule a match
between two men’s teams in the Champions League.
The championship has appointed referee Stephanie Frapar to
manage the Italian match between Juventus and Dynamo Kiev,
in Turin, on Wednesday evening.
Although she will rule her first match in the largest European tournament,
Frabar has already gone through exciting refereeing experiences
in men’s and women’s tournaments.
Frabar, who will turn 37 next month, became the first woman to
run a prominent match in a European Union (UEFA) competition
when she managed Liverpool and Chelsea’s Super Cup match in
Istanbul last year.
She also managed the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final
between the United States and the Netherlands, and became the
first woman to manage a Ligue 1 match when Amiens played
against Strasbourg in April of last year.
And she managed her first match in the Europa League last
October, when Leicester City hosted rival Zorya Luhansk of Ukraine.
Juventus, who have already qualified for the Round of 16, are
second in Group G with nine points from four matches, eight
points ahead of Dynamo Kyiv, and three points behind Barcelona,
who will face Francesafros of Hungary on Wednesday.
