Chelsea FC announced that English coach Frank Lampard has been sacked, Monday, after a series of poor
team results.
Chelsea said in a statement that the club had made a “very difficult decision” to sack Frank Lampard from
coaching the team, on Monday, and that came less than 24 hours after their victory over Luton Town
in the FA Cup.
According to the Telegraph, the squad were told not to come to the training center until late Monday,
after Lampard’s dismissal was announced.
The president of the Russian billionaire club, Roman Abramovich, said that “he made a difficult decision
to dismiss Lampard, due to the current circumstances that necessitate the team to change coaches,”
and thanked the player who was once a legend of the club, and a close friend of Abramovich himself.
Lampard suffered from a large fluctuation in the level with Chelsea, who suffered a series of defeats and
negative results, which led to their decline to ninth place in the English Premier League.
But the most prominent factor that was the reason for the management’s dissatisfaction with him was his
failure to take out the best of the team’s new stars, the Germans Timo Werner and Kay Hafitz, who faced
great difficulty in starring in the league.
On the other hand, a number of sports journalists indicated that the expected alternative to Lampard is
the German Thomas Tuchel, who was recently dismissed from the French Paris Saint-Germain training.
Sources also said that the Chelsea administration, led by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, preferred
to hire a German coach who could better deal with Werner and Havertz.
Reports indicated that Tuchel, a former Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund coach, was seen at
the club’s headquarters in Cobham on Sunday.
