Levante relegated after defeat by Real Madrid
Levante were relegated to the second division of the Spanish Football League,
after a crushing 6-0 defeat by champion Real Madrid, in which Vinicius Junior contributed
with a hat-trick, Thursday.
Bottom line Levante needed a win to keep a glimmer of hope alive, but in front of a burning
Real that hope quickly faded.
Real Madrid, who face Liverpool in the Champions League final later this month, took the lead in
the 13th minute through Ferland Mendy, before Karim Benzema and Rodrygo scored to make the score 3-0.
Vinicius opened his tally of goals before the break and then added two goals in the second half,
to confirm the relegation of Levante after the 19th defeat this season.
Mendy opened the scoring after a quick counter-attack started by Luka Modric, before Benzema
consolidated the supremacy six minutes later with a header from Vinicius’ cross.
Rodrygo scored the third goal with a close-range shot after another assist from Modric, who also
made the first Vinicius goal.
Benzema manipulated the goalkeeper before passing to Vinicius to easily net in the 68th minute,
and then the Brazilian striker completed the six from a narrow angle seven minutes before the end.
