French sports newspaper, L’Equipe, reported on Saturday that French international striker
Kylian Mbappe decided to extend his contract with his current club, Paris Saint-Germain,
the French Ligue 1 champion.
Reports suggested Mbappe, whose current contract with the French champions expires at
the end of the current season, to join Spanish champions Real Madrid.
The French newspaper confirmed that Mbappe has not yet signed the new contract with Saint-Germain,
according to which the link between the two parties is expected to continue until 2025.
The 23-year-old player, who is considered one of the most prominent emerging talents and led France
to win the World Cup 2018, was a candidate to leave on a free transfer after the end of the current season.
Saint-Germain signed Mbappe from Monaco in 2017 in a deal that the media speculated to be worth
about 180 million euros, becoming the second most expensive player in the history of the game after Neymar,
who moved from Barcelona to Saint-Germain for 222 million euros.
Real made an offer to join Mbappe last year, but the rejection came from Saint-Germain, who seemed
to lose the player at the end of the season without benefiting.
It was reported last year that Real offered Saint-Germain about 200 million euros for the French striker.
Saint-Germain did not want to sell the player in the hope of winning the Champions League, but
the French giant left the continental competition from the round of 16 against Real after a sudden
collapse in the second half of the second leg.
Saint-Germain supported its ranks last year and included Lionel Messi from Barcelona, but except
for winning the local league, he did not win any other title.
Despite this, Mbappe grabbed the spotlight individually, scoring 36 goals and assisting 26 assists
