On the night of the coronation, the president of Real Madrid opened fire on Mbappe
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez confirmed that the “Royal Club” was not thinking about
French international striker Kylian Mbappe when he celebrated the enhancement of his unprecedented
record after winning the 14th title in the European Champions League, following the 1-0 victory over
Liverpool in Paris.
Many expected Paris Saint-Germain striker to move to the Spanish giant, before last week he extended
his contract with his current club until 2025, in a dramatic transformation that angered many Real Madrid
players and fans.
“Real Madrid will always work to get the best players. But today we have already forgotten Mbappe,” Perez
told reporters after winning thanks to a goal by Vinicius Junior.
Reuters quoted Perez as saying: “Nothing happened. Real Madrid had a perfect season and we forgot about it.
There is only Real Madrid’s celebration.”
However, Mbappe’s decision to stay with the French champion caused a war of words between the relevant parties
after Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League, said that he would file a complaint with the European
Football Association (UEFA), considering that the deal “constitutes an attack on the economic stability”
of European football.
Vincent Labron, president of the French League, responded to Tebas last Thursday, saying that the Spanish
official’s unjustified abuse of the French League and its players was “unacceptable”.
