Nottingham Forest returns to Premier League after 23-year absence
Nottingham Forest returned to the Premier League after a 23-year absence, following a free-to-pay
win over Huddersfield Town, in the Promotion Supplement Final on Sunday.
The game’s only goal came in the 43rd minute, when Huddersfield defender Levy Colwell failed
to clear James Garner’s powerful cross and accidentally scored against him.
Former European champions Forrest were relegated from the Lights League in 1999, but will join second-tier
champions Fulham and second-placed Bournemouth to the Premier League.
Steve Cooper’s side dominated play in the first half, then defended their lead strongly while Huddersfield
failed to almost threaten the goal.
Forrest defender Joe Worrol said: “I am very proud of the players, the coaching staff and the fans. We’ve been great
all season, and we haven’t been lucky not to qualify directly. ”
Forrest was crowned England’s champion in 1978 under Brian Clough, and was then named European
Cup in 1979 and 1980.
