Lewandowski reveals why he wanted to “leave Bayern”
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed why he wanted to leave Bayern Munich,
the German champions for the last 10 years.
In a podcast published Monday on the Polish website Onet, Lewandowski, 33, replied whether
he wanted to leave the Bavarian club in search of money or additional passion in life, saying
without hesitation: “Passion in life.”
And “Liva”, who reported to be willing to join Barcelona for 32 million euros, said: “In the beginning,
something went out inside of me, and it is something that cannot overcome or compensated.”
He added: “With what I achieved thanks to Bayern and Bayern achieved thanks to me, it is advisable
to find a mutually acceptable solution and not to take a unilateral decision.”
And he continued, “After 8 years in the ranks of (Record Meister), loyalty and respect are more
important than business,” insisting that he will leave in Bayern “friends” and not “collaborators”,
according to “AFP”.
Last week, the player revealed in a press conference for his country that he could not continue
with Bayern, saying: “My story with Bayern Munich is over. I can’t imagine a new cooperation in
the future after what happened in recent months. I hope the club will not retain my services just
because it can. I think that Moving is the best solution for all parties.
Lewandowski has been defending the Bavarian club since 2014, scoring 344 goals, and his current
contract expires at the end of 2023, which means that his stay with Bayern for an additional season
without renewing his contract will make him a free player next season, where he will entitled
to leave for free.
Bayern Munich officials have always confirmed that they will not abandon their Polish striker,
but in return they do not want to lose him for free at the end of his contract, especially since he
refused to renew it.
Lewandowski crowned the best player in the world presented by FIFA twice in a row, and he
also won with Bayern the Champions League title in 2020 and 8 titles in the Bundesliga, which he
added to his first titles with Borussia Dortmund.
And he broke a large number of records as a top scorer, the most prominent of which was the number
of goals in one season in the German League.
And with 41 goals last season, he broke a record back for several years, which is 40 goals for Gerd Muller
in the 1971-1972 season.
In the Champions League, Lewandowski occupies third place in the list of historical scorers for the competition,
as he shares it with Real Madrid’s French international striker Karim Benzema (86 goals each), behind
Cristiano Ronaldo, the leader (140 goals) and Argentine Lionel Messi (125 goals).
