The English conqueror comments on the “miracle” victory
Hungary coach Marco Rossi described his team’s 4-0 victory over England in the UEFA Nations League
last night as a “miracle”.
Rossi said his team had achieved a “miracle”, but that his players should be humble because such results
do not happen often.
Roland Chalay scored two goals at Molino Stadium, as Hungary inflicted England’s worst defeat at home
in 94 years.
This is Hungary’s second victory over England in the competition, after its 1-0 victory in Budapest earlier
this month.
“I’m sure England are really among the best in the world and the favorites to win the World Cup, so winning
this result seems like a miracle,” the Italian coach told reporters.
“If a miracle happens in football, it is difficult to repeat it. So we are happy but we need to be humble and keep
our feet on the ground.”
This is the first time that England have lost at home by four goals since the Hungarians did the same in 1953,
when they won 6-3.
Rossi considered that he had made his mark as a coach, adding: “When I took office, I said to the President
of Hungary and the Prime Minister, I would like to leave a mark on my presence before I leave.” I think that
at this point the mark can be seen. When I die I’m sure there will be a minute’s silence in stadiums in Hungary.
This is a great achievement for me.”
