In a press conference held in conjunction with the preparatory round for
the Premier League champion for the new season in the United States,
Guardiola said: “This is not true. I am sorry for them, but their information was wrong.”
The Spanish coach referred to an article published by the newspaper “Le Parisien”
claiming that Neymar, who moved to Saint-Germain in a record deal amounting
to 222 million euros, could have been used as a bargaining chip in exchange for
the transfer of a player from City.
The article specified that “the club coached by Guardiola quickly denied this possibility.
The Spaniard does not want to cause a defect in building his group in conjunction
with the arrival of a star of this caliber,” according to the French news agency.
In the same context, Guardiola added: “Neymar is a great player and according to
the information I have, he is a very nice person. So leave him alone, and let him
express his wonderful talent in Paris,” and added, grumbling, “Every summer they
write that Manchester City will sign 150 players.”
