City rises against Newcastle

City rises against Newcastle

In an exciting confrontation .. City rises against Newcastle

Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva scored back-to-back goals in

the second half as Manchester City bounced back from two goals

behind and drew 3-3 with Newcastle United in a thrilling Premier League

game at St James’ Park, on Sunday.

Neither team had conceded any goal this season, but Ilkay Gundogan

opened the scoring for City in the fifth minute, receiving Bernardo’s

pass and firing from close range in the middle of the goal.

City could have scored the second goal in the 16th minute, when winger

Phil Foden advanced from the right side, but he shot from a narrow

angle instead of passing to his colleague Halland, to miss the defending champion.

Miguel Almiron equalized for Newcastle in the 28th minute after he met

a cross from Alan Saint-Maximin, and the referee canceled the goal

at first before the VAR judged it.

Saint-Maximin overtook City’s Kyle Walker and passed to Callum Wilson

to make it 2-1 shortly before the break.

Newcastle came close to achieving a resounding surprise against

the defending champions, as Kieran Trippier added a free kick goal

nine minutes into the second half, making the score 3-1.

But City bounced back amazingly and Haaland hit the post, before reducing

the difference, then Bernardo equalized after Kevin De Bruyne’s pass.

It seemed that Newcastle would collapse when Trippier received a direct

red card for a violent foul against De Bruyne, but the referee retracted

and gave him a yellow card after watching the shot in the side screen

of the video assistant referee.

City controlled the ball in the last minutes, but was unable to snatch

the victory, so the two teams came out with a draw, and the defending

champions have seven points in second place, two points behind leaders Arsenal,

and Newcastle comes sixth with five points.
