Klopp praises Haaland and refuses to compare him to Salah
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp revealed his opinion of Mohamed Salah’s
goal-scoring level this season, adopting this as a focus of comparison between
the Egyptian international and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Klopp said he hoped striker Mohamed Salah would restore his scoring prowess
soon after a slow start to the Premier League.
Salah, who scored 23 goals in the league last season to share the competition’s
top scorer award with Son Heung-min, has not lived up to his level last season
so far and scored only two goals in the league.
Klopp explained that the Egyptian star’s lack of goals is not related to the lack of desire,
adding that it is not fair to compare him to Manchester City striker Erling Haaland,
who scored his 15th goal in the league this season, Saturday.
The German coach told reporters before a visit to Arsenal: “I think Salah’s position
is the position of all of us and I hope we get close to the flow of goals. Is this his season yet?
No, like all of us.”
He continued, “No one in the world can understand Haaland’s position now,
it is crazy what he is doing, he is an exceptional player in an exceptional team
and I do not think that he should be compared to any other player now.”
He concluded: “Salah definitely wants to score goals with full passion, this will not
change, after 20 years he will have the same hunger.”
Liverpool occupies the tenth place after collecting only 10 points from 7 games,
before visiting the leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
