Member of the Syrian Football Association and Chairman of the National Teams Committee, Abdelkader Kordagli, confirmed on Friday that the Tunisian coach Nabil Maaloul expressed his approval to train the Syrian national team after meeting with him “secretly.”
“After telephone negotiations, Nabil Maaloul visited Damascus for 24 hours, and we met with him for several hours, where he expressed his desire and agreement to train the Syrian national team and complete the contracting matters,” Kordagli said.
Kordagli did not disclose the material demands of Maaloul and said: “The Football Association will study its financial conditions and decide on them soon … In a large percentage, things will be resolved, knowing that the contract period is about a year and 10 months, that is, until the end of the double qualifiers for the World Cup and Asian Cup.”
Fajr Ibrahim, the former coach of the Syrian national team whose contract expired at the end of last year, rejected the proposal of the Football Association to extend his contract for 6 months, knowing that he led Syria to the top of the first Asian group for the double qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup with the full score.
His score was 15 points from five rounds, compared to 7 points for each of China (played four games), the Philippines and 3 points for the Maldives, while Guam ranked last without a balance.
