Liverpool ‘boys’ cross Shrewsbury for England’s fifth round

Liverpool ‘boys’ cross Shrewsbury for England’s fifth round

English Premier League leaders Liverpool continued their career in the Cup competition with a record group of young players, after beating their guest Shrewsbury Town from the third level 1-0 in a rematch from the fourth round.

The average age of Liverpool players is 19 years and 102 days, to outperform in one season its record, after reaching the average age of its players 19 years and 182 days in the League Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa last December.

On January 26, Shrewsbury Town imposed a replay match on the European champions with a 2-2 draw, as Liverpool also played the match with a reserve squad.

Liverpool will meet Chelsea at the final price in a fiery position.

Liverpool continues to advance towards its first league title in three decades, extending the difference to 22 points with defending champions Manchester City in the last two seasons, after winning twenty consecutive home soil last weekend.

In the first humble stage, Liverpool was the best in possession and control, but Shrewsbury did not succeed in taking advantage of his rebounds and posing a threat to the goal of Irish goalkeeper Kwamehin Kelleher (21 years).

In the second, the Welshman Nico Williams missed a dangerous opportunity for Liverpool, who was brilliantly removed by the goalkeeper (52).

In front of his few fans at Enfield, Shrewsbury kidnapped a goal that was canceled a few seconds later after the use of video technology (59).

The young defender Roo-Sean Williams, a graduate of Manchester United Academy, bore the burden of accidentally scoring the Liverpool goal in his net trying to distract across so he played with his head fatal in the net of his goalkeeper to save it (75).

The decision of German coach Juergen Klopp to pay a reserve squad has sparked controversy, so the English Football Association announced last week that it had warned Liverpool of the possibility of replaying the fourth round in the mid-season break before the start of the season.

Klopp confirmed that he and the stars of the first team would not appear in the replay match and that he would “respect” the break, and that Neil Critchley, the coach of the under-23 team, would take over.
