In a rare soccer event, two teams wasted nine consecutive penalty kicks in the Japanese Super Cup soccer match.
The match between Japanese league champion Yokohama Marinos and Vissel Kobe ended its original time in a 3–3 tie, when the two sides ruled a penalty shootout, as nine players in a row failed to put the ball into the net.
This is the second time in 25 years that Japanese football fields witnessed the loss of nine penalty kicks in one match, but it is the first time that nine consecutive kicks have been wasted.
