English soccer star Daily Alli has been accused of racism after he published a video that mocked an Asian and linked him to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
The English star of Tottenham Hotspur, published a series of videos considered “offensive” for Asians, on his account using the Snapchat application, while he was at Heathrow International Airport in London.
One of the videos showed Ally appearing intimidated by an Asian at the airport, wearing a face mask, hanging with the phrase “It’s the Koruna.”
He posted in the last video of a sterile handwash bottle, and jokingly commented: “The virus has to be very fast to infect me.”
Several social media pioneers attacked the English player because of his videos that “did not respect the feelings” of those infected and affected by the virus, which was racist towards Asians.
One of them wrote: “It is never appropriate to photograph this man and start joking around the Coronavirus,” while another wrote: “There are people who are dying around the world because of this epidemic. This racism is unacceptable.”
Ali quickly apologized for the video, saying in a statement: “I regret publishing the video on Snapchat, and I immediately erased it when I realized it might cause offense.”
He added: “This was never my intention. For everyone who felt offended … I extend my sincere apology.”
The death toll from the new Coronavirus continues to rise, as countries around the world strive to reduce the consequences of the serious disease.
The death toll from the new Coronavirus in China rose to 811 today, exceeding the number of SARS deaths between 2002-2003, but fewer new cases have been reported, indicating that outbreaks may slow as other countries intensify their efforts to stave off the epidemic.
