The English Premier League announced the postponement of the Manchester City and West Ham United match, in the Premier League, on Sunday, due to Hurricane Ceara that hit Britain.
Manchester City and West Ham clubs announced that their confrontation with the 26th round of the league competitions has been postponed due to the “Ciara storm” that led to the rise of wind power in northern England.
The security officer at Manchester City made the decision to postpone the meeting, after discussions with officials in West Ham and the Premier League.
The club said the decision came because of “the harsh and escalating weather conditions, and in the interest of the public safety of the fans and employees working during the match.”
On the other hand, the Bundesliga German League postponed the North Derby, between Mönchengladbach and Cologne, for the same reason.
The Dutch League also decided to postpone 4 matches due to strong winds, including the league summit between Ajax Amsterdam and Utrecht.
Rail, air, and ferry trains were canceled, and weather warnings were issued throughout Britain, while a “car storm” hit winds of up to 129 km per hour.
At least 10 railway companies in Britain sent “Do not Travel” warnings, and nearly 20 other companies informed passengers that they expected delays, as strong winds are expected on Sunday to damage electrical wires and intercept broken tree ends and other track Train debris.
London Heathrow Airport and many airlines have decided to merge flights to reduce the number of flights that will be canceled due to high winds, while British Airways has offered to re-book customers for domestic and European flights outside Heathrow, Gatwick and London City.
