Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman responded to an attack against
him, Joaquin Sanchez, captain of Real Betis, before the two
teams’ meeting scheduled for Saturday in the ninth stage of the
Spanish League.
The Dutch coach previously worked with the Spanish football
star years ago in Valencia, when he led the team in 5 months of
the 2007-2008 season, during which he won the King’s Cup
title, but was dismissed due to poor results in the league.
The relationship between Joaquin and Cuman was not good
during this period, according to Spanish press reports, which
prompted the 39-year-old Betis striker to criticize the coach
before their meeting at Camp Nou.
When Joaquín was asked a few days ago if he would like to
appoint Coman as Technical Director of Betis, he replied,
saying: “Not even the operator carrying the equipment.”
The former international player added, “I did not have a good
experience with him, even though it passed. It was not
something that lasted long and we managed to save the season.
Saturday will not greet me and I will not greet him.”
Koeman responded to Joaquin’s statements at the press
conference before the meeting, saying: “I understand that this is
important material for you (to journalists). But I do not want to
go into this conversation.”
He continued: “If he wants to talk more than that, that is his
problem. I focus on the meeting and I do not go into individual
things or things that happened in the past. We know that he
(Joaquin) speaks well.”
