Defending champions Juventus scored twice with two headers in the last
quarter of an hour, to turn a goal behind to a 2-1 win over neighboring Turin
in the city-wide match in the Italian Serie A.
Torino scored a surprise goal by Nicolas Ncolo from close range after a corner
kick in the ninth minute, and was 12 minutes away from his first victory away
to Juventus in 25 years before collapsing.
Substitute Weston McKinney equalized after a Juan Cuadrado cross in the 78th minute.
Defender Leonardo Bonucci scored the winning goal in exactly the same fashion
one minute before the end of normal time.
Juventus advanced to second place with 20 points from ten games, two points
ahead of Inter Milan, who face Bologna on Saturday, and Sassuolo, who is a
guest at Roma on Sunday.
Torino, who has won only once this season, is 18th with six points.
Torino produced one of his worst levels in the first half and despite long possession,
he needed 43 minutes to get his first shot on target.
Torino took the lead after a corner kick near the near post and Juventus failed to
disperse it to reach Nicolo, who fired quickly into the goal from close range.
Torino could have added the second goal shortly after Simone Zaza received an Andrea Belotti pass,
but he hit a left-footed ball that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczenceny saved brilliantly.
Juventus started the second half better and thought it tied in the 57th minute after
Cuadrado sent a high ball into the area and a group of players passed by and entered the goal.
However, after a long review of the video assistant referee, it was decided to cancel
the goal due to the presence of the offside Bonucci in the path of the ball.
Turin struggled under pressure and after a corner kick, the ball reached Cuadrado,
who crossed over to McKinney to score his first goal in the Italian league with a powerful header.
After 11 minutes, Cuadrado sent another cross but this time to Bonucci to clinch
the three points and Juventus out with the victory.
