A fierce attack by Henry on his compatriot Mbappe because of the “desire to leave”
The Frenchman, Thierry Henry, criticized his compatriot Kylian Mbappe
for the rumors circulating about the latter’s desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain,
due to his playing in the position of the frank striker, along with “false promises”
he obtained from the club’s management.
And press reports in France and Spain said that the 23-year-old Mbappe,
who extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2025 after he was
close to joining Real Madrid last season, wants to leave the French champions next January.
Paris Saint-Germain denied that Mbappe had asked to leave the team.
“Nobody wants people to highlight the parts they aren’t good at playing,” Henry
told CBS on Tuesday. “You just don’t like it.”
Mbappe plays as an outright striker in the 3-4-3 plan adopted by Christophe Galtier,
with Lionel Messi and Neymar on both sides of the pitch, which does not allow him
the freedom he enjoys in the France team, where he plays behind Karim Benzema.
“The club’s interest is greater than any individual,” added Henry, the former Arsenal
and France striker.
“But did they make it clear to him that the club is the most important thing, or did
they make him feel that he is more important than the club itself?”
Henry, France’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals, set an example with his
experience with Barcelona.
He explained: “I will tell my story. I did not like playing on the side at Barcelona.
I hated it. But I did it for the team.
He also indicated that he was forced to play on the side with the French national
team at the end of his career, in order to empty the attacking center for players
less experienced and powerful than him, and he never complained about that.
“There is one rule: if the coach tells you to do something, you must do it,” Henry said.
Mbappe appeared unfazed by the rumors, when he scored a goal in Paris Saint-Germain’s
1-1 draw at home with Benfica on Tuesday, in the Champions League.
