Sergi Moreno, the former player of the local Horta team, launched
a sharp attack on the current coach of the team, Barcelona’s historic
goalkeeper, Victor Valdes.
In statements carried by the Spanish sports newspaper, Marca,
Moreno described Valdes, who guarded Barcelona’s goalkeeper
between 2002 and 2014, as “an egoist who lacks modesty.”
After obtaining a European training license in 2018, Valdes, 38,
went through several experiences with technical management,
most recently with Barcelona’s Horta team.
Moreno was one of 3 players who were told by Valdes that they
were outside his plans before the start of the season, forcing them
to leave the team.
Moreno said, “Valdez lacks humility and selfishness. He thinks he’s
playing FIFA (a popular electronic game) as if he’s manipulating us players.”
He continued: “We were in the gym and at the end of the season Victor
came and told us that we are not in his plans anymore and that we
are not what he is looking for in football.”
Moreno added, “He told us to pick up our stuff and leave. He wanted
to sign other players.”
The player concluded his attack on Valdez: “We are human beings
before anything else, and with Victor Valdez, I felt I was being treated badly.
I earn my living from football and now how will I pay all I have to pay?”
Valdes had a bad career after his departure from Barcelona in 2014,
when he moved to Manchester United, England, and then was loaned to
Belgian Standard Liege, before concluding his career in the “Premier League”
with Middlesbrough.
The former Barcelona goalkeeper with the Catalan team won the Spanish League
6 times and the Copa del Rey twice, as well as 3 Champions League titles.
