Barcelona announced that its former player Neymar,
the current Paris St Germain striker and Brazil, should
return 6.7 million euros ($ 7.51 million) to his former
club after losing a lawsuit, about a reward he did not
receive.
Neymar moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain
for a record amount of 222 million euros in 2017,
but filed a lawsuit against the Spanish club over the
terms of his last contract with the Catalan club one year
before his departure, claiming that he deserved
43.6 million euros.
In his statement, Barcelona added, “Barcelona expresses
its satisfaction with the announced ruling today regarding
the lawsuit pertaining to FC Barcelona and player
Neymar Jr regarding the amount of the signature bonus
for the last renewal of the player’s contract.”
He continued: “The referee completely rejected the
player’s claim to obtain 43.6 million euros and accepted
a large part of the Barcelona defense, and as a result
the player must return 6.7 million euros to the club.”
Despite the long legal dispute between the two parties,
Barcelona tried to sign Neymar last year to the point that
the player refrained from training with Paris Saint-
Yerman in an attempt to force the club to agree to his
departure, which sparked angry protests against him from
the French club fans.
The deal did not take place at the end, as Saint-Germain
sports manager Leonardo said that Barcelona had failed
to pay the club’s amount to the striker, who had formed
a serious attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis
Suarez between 2014 and 2017.
