The Barcelona administration summoned the club’s sporting director, Eric Abidal, for an emergency meeting, against the backdrop of the speech released by team star Lionel Messi on Tuesday evening.
Directly and without introductions, Messi attacked the club’s sports director and ex-teammate, Eric Abidal, due to the latter’s comments criticizing the team’s players.
Messi posted on his Instagram account, a photo of the article “Sport” that shows Abidal’s comments to the newspaper, in which he said that the relationship between former coach Ernesto Valverde and the players was bad and that the players did not work hard for the team.
The Barcelona captain did not hesitate to respond immediately to Abidal, in a post that caused a stir on social media among Barcelona fans.
Spanish sources said that club president Jose Maria Bartomeu summoned Abidal for an emergency meeting, less than 24 hours after Messi’s comments.
The sources indicated that Abidal will resign during this meeting, especially as this incident came after a series of bad administrative decisions, which were accompanied by the team’s modest results.
The last Abidal interview in which the players attacked was the watershed for the former French player, who was attacked weeks ago because of his poor management of the dismissal of former team coach Ernesto Valverde, and his failure to appoint several candidates, before signing with Spanish coach Kiki Sittin.
If Abidal submits his resignation to the administration, the final decision will be in the hands of the club president, Bartolomeo, who will decide the fate of the sports director with the Catalan club.
