On Saturday, Liverpool criticized the “unacceptable” behavior
of a number of their fans, during their tumultuous celebration of
the English Premier League title for the first time in 30 years.
In a joint statement to the club, the Merseyside Police District
in northern England and the Municipal Council, Liverpool
considered that “our city is still in the midst of a health crisis
and this behavior is totally unacceptable.”
“The potential danger of a second wave of Covid-19 remains,
and we must work together to ensure that the effects of
everything we have done so far are not erased through
the isolation period,” which was imposed after the outbreak
began, the statement added.
Many fans gathered outside the Anfield stadium on Wednesday
night to celebrate after the team clinched the title in its favor,
following the loss of its direct chaser Manchester City against
Chelsea (1-2). Pictures circulated on social media also showed
celebrations in various parts of the city on Friday night.
In addition to the fans’ failure to adhere to the social restriction
imposed to prevent the spread of the Corona virus, the photos
showed that the revelers left behind large quantities of waste,
and the relevant municipal council bodies had to clean them
on Saturday.
The city authorities and the club administration had asked
the fans at previous times, not to gather outside the “Anfield”
stadium during the team’s matches, or to celebrate the title.
