Scientists at the German universities of Göttingen and Oslo have developed an application to analyze the development of a child’s vocabulary.
The Babylex app – available for free on Google Android and Apple iOS, is appreciated. or. S- The number of words the child knows, as he compares the child’s vocabulary with his peers of the same age and gender.
Information is calculated using a two-minute test in which parents indicate the words that the child already understands and can use, from a randomly chosen group of 25 words. The results can be saved on the smartphone to follow the development.
Baby Lakes works with Stanford University’s word database, which contains anonymous vocabulary data for thousands of children. There are four hundred to six hundred words, and parents should indicate the words that their child already knows.
Based on the answers – entered in the application and the answers from the database – the application “Baby Lakes” calculates the number of words that the child knows.
Before starting to use the application, the user is asked to “register a new child”, where he chooses a symbolic name for his child and the language he speaks. Currently, the application supports three languages: Norwegian, English, and German. After selecting the child’s gender and date of birth, the test can begin.
