Spanish club Real Madrid announced, on Saturday, that its
Belgian striker Eden Hazard, and his Brazilian midfielder
Casemiro, infected with the new Coronavirus.
The Spanish champion confirmed in a statement that the results
of the tests that the two players underwent were positive, and
indicated that all their colleagues and members of the technical
and administrative staff who were in direct contact with them
tested negative.
“Everyone’s test results came back negative, except for
Casemiro and Hazard,” the statement said. Real Madrid will
have to play its match on Sunday against Valencia in the ninth
stage of the Spanish League without its players.
Hazard and Casemiro will have to stay in quarantine for at least
a week, and then get a negative test, in order to be able to join
their national teams during the international break.
Hazard’s infection with the pandemic is bad news for the team
and his French coach Zinedine Zidane, because he was again
deprived of his services after returning to the stadiums only two
weeks ago after a long period of separation due to repeated injuries.
Hazard missed the start of the season due to an injury to the
posterior muscle of his right thigh.
On Monday, Real Madrid announced that its Brazilian
international defender Eder Militao infected with the
Coronavirus, on the eve of his 3-2 victory over Inter Milan in
the third round of the Champions League.
