The Barcelona crisis worsened this season after the star Lionel Messi broke his silence and suddenly attacked the club management, on Tuesday evening.
Directly and without introductions, Messi attacked the club’s sports director and ex-teammate, Eric Abidal, due to the latter’s comments criticizing the team’s players.
Messi posted on his Instagram account, a picture of the article “Sport” that shows Abidal’s comments to the newspaper, in which he said that the relationship between former coach Ernesto Valverde and the players was bad and that the players did not work seriously for the team.
Abidal told the Sport newspaper: “Many of the players were not satisfied or were not working seriously during Valverde’s time, and there was also a problem communicating.”
The Barcelona captain did not hesitate to respond immediately to Abidal, in a post that caused a stir on social media among Barcelona fans.
Messi wrote: “I honestly do not like doing these things, but I believe that everyone should be responsible for their work and decisions.
He added: “The players bear the responsibility for what is happening on the field, and we are the first to realize when we are not achieving good results. But the sports administration must also bear the responsibility, and above all, the decisions that it takes.”
And Messi concluded the post, saying: “Finally, when you talk about players, you have to give the names in detail, otherwise you attack us all inaccurately.”
Messi’s comments came to reinforce the rift between him and the Catalan club administration, which mishandled Valverde’s dismissal and failed materially in many deals during the past seasons.
